what we do

The Farm at Glen Haven is a boutique, organic hops farm and premiere event venue in Alleghany County, Virginia. Set along the Cowpasture River, and boasting over 10 acres of wildflowers and a beautifully refurbished barn, The Farm is a fairy tale location for outdoor weddings, private events and group retreats.

Rarely open to the public, The Farm at Glen Haven will be officially opening its gates during the Spring of 2017, during a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the Centennial Barn. Now booking summer, fall and winter weddings for 2017, the Hawes and Rucker family are also making preparations to host the first annual Homecoming Festival, a celebration of Virginia musicians & artists, which is scheduled to launch this year in June!

Family owned and operated since 1992, The Hawes & Rucker family have recently been giving new birth to the farm and land that was once the homestead of Col John Jordan, owner and operator of twelve local furnaces that produced pig iron for the Civil War. Steeped in history, and in rich fertile soil, "Glen Haven" is once again aligning with its agricultural purpose and is on its way to becoming Alleghany County's first wildflower and organic, commercial hops farm.

Passionate about community, agriculture and sustainability, The Rucker's are founders of the Alleghany Hops Alliance, members of the Old Dominion Hops Cooperative, the Cowpasture River Preservation Association, the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce, and the Virginia Hemp Coalition. It is our goal to help educate the community and local farmers about the viability of hops, and the heritage of hemp in Alleghany County, and we are currently aiding in the political process to help legalize commercial Hemp production in the state of Virginia.

The Farm is presently undergoing construction and extensive landscaping including: the repair and painting of our entire fence line, the planting of over 200 trees, the refurbishing of our barn, and the erection of our hop yard in preparation for the 2017, growing season. We appreciate your support and patience with us during this time and we look forward to meeting and sharing our vision with you this summer!
