what we do

The Farm at Glen Haven is a boutique hops farm and premiere event venue in Alleghany County, Virginia. Set along the Cowpasture River, and boasting several colorful acres of wildflowers and a beautifully refurbished barn, The Farm is a fairy tale location for outdoor weddings, live music, private events and group retreats.

Family owned and operated since 1992, The Hawes & Rucker family have recently been giving new birth to the farm and land that was once the homestead of Col John Jordan, owner and operator of twelve local furnaces that produced pig iron for the Civil War. Steeped in history, and in rich fertile soil, "Glen Haven" is once again aligning with its agricultural purpose and is the county's first wildflower and organic, commercial hops farm.

Alleghany Highlands native, Guy Michael Pullen, joined the Glen Haven hops initiative in 2017, after joining the Ruckers in Asheville, NC for the East Coast Hops Conference. He brings with him his time and experience in engineering and agriculture.

Passionate about community, agriculture and sustainability, The Rucker's are founders of the Virginia Agrology Collective, members of the Old Dominion Hops Cooperative, the Cowpasture River Preservation Association, the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce, and the Virginia Hemp Coalition. One of their goals is to help educate local farmers about the viability of hops, and the heritage of hemp in Alleghany County.
